oh no
According to Discord, #Valheim is coming to macOS June 10.
And I was being so productive.

Wasn’t familiar with this generation Jones thing but yep that fits my mom and most of her peers better than the broader Boomer tag.
Course as gen-x I am duty-bound to mention that generational tags are a lie for marketing and alienation. But having too many to be convenient is almost as good as having none at all. Go team Generation Jones!

@maddiefuzz oh no

@grmpyprogrammer Maybe a horseshoe?
But yeah moustaches are all kinds of iffy.
hackers.town: 2024-06-04 Tue 08:48
@brohrer It’s been one of my favorite pastimes since childhood.

@tk Been using Kagi a few months as a paid customer and honestly? Its quality has degraded over that short time, as it leans a little harder all the time on its AI offerings. Finding useful results is no longer a sure thing. They’ve clearly put my subscription money towards things I don’t care about at the expense of the things I do.
Still more effective than most of the big names, but by not enough to renew my subscription when that comes due. And who knows how much more awful actual search will get by then.

@cstross I hate to see food waste.
But it was all for a good cause.

Another commercial productivity tool pushing new AI features in my inbox.
If that did it for me, well – I already would have been using it in one of the other tools pushing their AI features at me. At this point you’re just aiming to be the Google+ of productivity tools.

Getting pinged by recruiters in Seattle who “love your profile and think you’d be a great fit for this on-site requirement.”
Is the on-site in Tucson? You know, where it says I live now, on my profile?
“Ummmm”
kthx bye
hackers.town: 2024-06-04 Tue 11:04
@spinningthoughts I mean this seems like normal human inattentiveness to me, but that could be fun.
Bumped into so many cases where the profile they’re looking at was the one that got pulled into their system six months ago. I’d get recruited for contracting gigs at Amazon while I was contracting at Amazon, for the same agency.

Was good to get out and do our stuff before noon while it was still a balmy 91F out.
Now we stay inside. Dogs can pee on the wall, just like the rest of us.

@IamMrsGeek Good thing there’s nothing important we’d like to be doing after a long distance move in the next couple weeks involving mail oh wait

Just heard “assume good intent” in a conversation and I’d already decided the speaker was full of crap, but that locked it in tight.
hackers.town: 2024-06-04 Tue 12:18
I know I know. A lot of folks get trained towards the charitable assumption. Unfortunately it’s wrong.
Intent is irrelevant. Impact is what counts.

I’ve seen me some shitty middle management thinking in my time and I just witnessed the middle-management-iest I’ve seen for a bit.
hackers.town: 2024-06-04 Tue 12:33
Easy to get distracted by the tech changes since this broadcast but goodness the mindset remains constant.

@thegibson Ah the famous song by Humble Pie, 30 Minutes in the Hole
hackers.town: 2024-06-04 Tue 12:52
@thegibson The best songs do.

Applying for lots of jobs today, with the most recent being firmly in the category of “wouldn’t it be ironic if they hired me.”
Ah well. I wouldn’t have applied if it didn’t interest me.

Generating then importing CSV takes about 6s, but has required constant fiddling with text formatting for multiline blocks, quote characters, stuff like that.
A whole lot of CREATE statements takes 18s, but hey it was more like 90 before I wrapped those statements up in a couple transactions.
#KuzuDB also has functionality to load from a DataFrame, and I’ll probably check that out too. See how it compares.

I hope our stuff gets here soon. It’s been over a week.
Too much longer, and it may be easier to reinstall Arch than to update it.
hackers.town: 2024-06-04 Tue 20:17
@tankgrrl just barely old enough to remember folks still trying to say “cigarettes help digestion!”
hackers.town: 2024-06-04 Tue 20:18
@amydentata At one point I would have said the smart money was hosting ranty youtube videos
but
