Saw a solid dark wasp with a body the size of my damn thumb just chilling on some flowers. I did not hang around.

Looked up “giant fucking black wasp Tucson” and learned this neighbor is the tarantula hawk wasp.

I’d heard of them and their uh special relationship with tarantulas. Let’s skip that bit.

“This wasp is not considered aggressive—”

Oh thank goodness.

“—but it does have one of the most painful stings of any insect.”

Ah. Well. Let’s hope I don’t bump into one having a bad day.

On a drive to visit family. Taking a pit stop along the way. Thinking things could be way worse than 104F in Tucson.

Phoenix reminds me of Sacramento and that’s not a compliment.
