Not sure when or why but sometime in the last few weeks EndeavourOS pushes the NVidia GPU fan to the max whenever it’s engaged by a more intensive game.
Thought maybe it had always been like that and I only noticed because of new house acoustics. But no. Windows doesn’t do that.
So I’ll have some investigating to do at some point.

@jnkrtech Same, and they feel emboldened by the current tech industry hiring practices.
Sure I would’ve been susceptible to this kind of material in 2002-2004 or so, but folks like this had just started pushing their garbage via blogs. Blogs which I didn’t subscribe to.
This ain’t the first rodeo for folks like us, so we can smell that particular nonsense pretty quick.

@hbuchel I’ve been a developer longer than I’ve been anything else at this point, but for the first ten years of my adult life I was an aspiring artist and tattoo designer.

My view of generative AI is evolving. My problem isn’t technically with the tool. It’s good. It’s useful. Don’t overdo it. My problem is with how the overwhelming majority of orgs use it.
Kinda how I felt about Perl.
Anyways yes some enjoyably cranky quotes in that piece, most of which I agree with.

I’m sorry but I don’t see “hand-typed from a program listing in a mid-80s hobbyist magazine” or anything that really equates to that.
How about my second, third, and fourth languages? “From books” is not here.
I’ll go with “online documentation.” YouTube was huge in 1983.
EDIT: went with “secondary / high school” because we got to do after-class workshops with the school’s Apple ][ lab. After I’d already been programming but whatever.

Okay I applied to participate with the minimal amount of snark.
Very curious about “Byron” listed as a programming language for have used or want to use. Really jumped out in the otherwise completely vanilla language listing.
The only hit I found so far is an Ada toolchain with 58 stars and an — uh — interesting taste in historical connections to use for naming.
