I don’t think I could comfortably do a four hour round trip commute.

Also, I’m not an electrical engineer.

But hey at least (some of) the shotgun recruiters are getting the right state now!

@vantablack hang on now would this be a device that launches some biological weapon which induces priapism, or an improvised trebuchet so that those suffering from the specified ailment could be used in siege warfare?

Some of my note consolidation includes pulling in tumblelog pages, which were initially generated via #OrgMode capture templates.

Got the urge to find a #Logseq plugin that would generate Org-style timestamps. Full House Templates appears to do the trick!

@jenniferplusplus this is an interesting perspective, and sure as heck explains a lot both about the marketing and the almost MLM-level embrace of this messaging I’ve seen from devs I’d previously considered level heads.

Friends who used to be all about “look at this cool thing I can do with $tool!” have largely shifted to something that sounds more like “we’re all doomed but you can be slightly less doomed if you learn AI now.”

which does not click with me

I’m not immune to negging. I am a wildly insecure person. But thanks to being all neurospicy, many forms of emotional manipulation just go right past me without the slightest register.

AI marketing as negging would sure as heck explain why it has failed to click with me.

@JoscelynTransient my long-running joke is that the #ADHD meds help me focus, though not necessarily on what I’m supposed to be focusing on.

Some success with listing key items for tomorrow’s TODOs before I go to bed (so it’s a little closer to surface thoughts when I wake up), allowing myself a timed hour or less of frivolous morning hyperfocus as caffeine and meds kick in (logic being it’s sometimes easier to do work if I have happy buzz from doing something interesting but not too interesting first), then forcing myself to the task list.

This is not 100%. But it works more often than going tunnel-vision on the first interesting thing.

way ahead of you

YouTube video recommendation; title is “New Prompt Generator Just Ended the Need for Prompt Engineering”; the thumbnail caption reads “Never write another prompt”

hackers.town: 2024-06-25 Tue 17:47

No but really though the brain cells I’m putting into generative AI are about APIs and glue rather than prompt engineering, because “prompts” feel like very much the FONT tags of this particular domain.

@masukomi I guess?

You’re talking the rhetorical narrative “we” right? Because I haven’t done any of that and I’ve a hunch you haven’t either.

hackers.town: 2024-06-25 Tue 18:06

@masukomi I figured but my brain went literal for a second. Needed to reassure myself.

A few days ago Jumpy Dog switched to being terrified of — ??? — at night. She won’t go upstairs unless bodily carried, goes back down as soon as she can, and shifts around restless regardless of where she is.

My only guess is she’s figured out the late night outside noises aren’t neighborhood dogs being taken for a midnight walk.

hackers.town: 2024-06-25 Tue 21:48

@superball Me too! She’s always been prone to anxiety, but her usual tactic was to effectively glue herself to us. This whole thing of hiding downstairs is new.

@Wrewdison unless she knows something we don’t about what’s in the walls.
