#Stardeus dev started talking about 0.11 pretty much the minute he pushed out 0.10, so I’ve been holding off — for a while!

But now it’s out I can play again.

A lot of times studying is just learning names for things I already knew.

Which honestly is a nice feeling.

But kinda knowing the subject means when my studying hits a bit that doesn’t sound right, I get suspicious of the bits that did sound right.

@ovid hey you watch your mouth I’m now in one of the states where I’d have to see somebody driving down the road, rolling coal with a codpiece strapped to the front of their spotless F150

hackers.town: 2024-07-23 Tue 11:06

@ovid No I think the Teslas are more around Phoenix.

well almost interview time

should set thinks up

maybe think about pants?

nah

hackers.town: 2024-07-23 Tue 11:46

no but for reals it’s currently a mild 96F outside which still means my situationally appropriate, event-driven wardrobe means I look nice for the interview from about 15 minutes before to about 20 seconds after.

hackers.town: 2024-07-23 Tue 11:56

@bmac Yep and that’s why I spend a solid five minutes beforehand making sure the camera’s pointed only where it needs to be.

hackers.town: 2024-07-23 Tue 13:14

Done!

(unceremoniously strips off nice shirt, with the pit stains he’s been hiding off camera for 45 minutes of the last hour)

hackers.town: 2024-07-23 Tue 14:49

@IamMrsGeek see at least you appreciate my magic

hackers.town: 2024-07-23 Tue 16:31

ah yes the “check email every five minutes even though you already reminded yourself it’s past office hours in their time zone” stage of the interview pipeline

hackers.town: 2024-07-23 Tue 16:41

@lmorchard you’d think Apple would understand the inherent hostility of proper punctuation in modern communication

@blogdiva @farah @noondlyt@mastodon.social I brag about how my family’s been freaks, weirdos, petty criminals, and artists for generations, I guess it only makes sense that some families have “fascist” as their cross-generational tradition.

(sigh)

@genehack fair point.

Initial version of my Go learning project used too many pointers.

Curious how the code would look and run with fewer pointers, so I’ve been cleaning that up in a branch.

Still got a ways to go, but it looks — well, it’s Go. It looks a different kind of clunky than it did before. But it is more obvious what’s going on.

Fewer pointers means trusting the compiler more. Turns out this is a good idea. Execution time went from ~1.75s to ~1.25s on Linux.
