Brain’s been throwing out that character name all year. I finally gave in.

@genehack reiterating that history will mark us as boomers, which will and should piss us all off righteously.

We got some bondage gear for our garbage bin and it has for at least one night defeated the javelinas.

Breakfast from @IamMrsGeek because she’s awesome. I try to give myself a reasonable portion.
She: (growl)
Me: that’s already a serving and a half!
She: (growl)
Me: I’m already fatter than you!
She: (growl)
Me: I can just see you weighing yourself, coming downstairs, and giving me three extra pancakes.

Discussing our plans for the day.
Me: “I have to rewrite this tool.”
She: “You have to or you want to?”
Me: “I desperately want to.”

@rcpierce just the sign. They’re moving up the street into a historical building, and for historical building legal reasons they can’t put a new readerboard up outside.

We went out for dinner and a pleasant walk, and my only regret is wearing pants.

@tk Kotlin is a pleasant language! If I were to do JVM stuff, I’d prefer to do so with Kotlin.
hackers.town: 2024-10-05 Sat 19:41
@tk no, I skipped that opportunity.
Syntax puns aside, it’s still the JVM.

Jumpy Dog: it’s bedtime now. You know that, right? We are going to bed now, right? Why are you just standing there taking pictures?

@joelle I learned to drive at 30, after a traumatic attempt at 17.
My probably-autistic partner at the time taught me the very basics one at a time in the parking lot over a few weeks, and when I was comfy with those, found an amazing instructor who specialized in nervous learners.
A very considerate and considered approach to helping me handle the overwhelm.

I dug deep enough into Flask at one point that I got my name in the acknowledgments of a Flask book for all my questions, code corrections, and request for clarifications.
But the Flask I’ve seen in production code is so consistently bad that I consider Flask in production a warning flag. Global variables, objects used as magic hashes, load-bearing dependency on a nephew’s roommate’s cousin’s neighbor’s forgotten side project. Etc.
Yeesh.
Most Pythonic Web apps are fine in Django. You need focused microservices-type, use FastAPI. Both have core philosophies and expectations. Flask is so TMTOWTDI, you may as well use Perl.
It’s not impossible to write structured Flask apps. It just hardly ever happens.
