I wish app devs would stop describing floating tabs and floating sidebars as some kind of new accessibility feature or distraction-free experience, rather than a UX component with a higher cognitive cost (ok there’s the sidebar now click carefully or you’ll make it disappear; which tab is my web page again?) that you added because you think it looks cool.

@woozle @Catvalente I’m careful about getting nostalgic because yeah I was broke the whole way through, unrecognized ADHD, pop culture in the first half was about how much everything sucked as the Boomers had started gripping everything harder, and, and, and
BUT
We also generally accepted that asbestos was bad and vaccinations were good.
God I miss that.

@wordshaper @Catvalente marketing and media fascination with trends among offspring of well-off families. Those are the Howdy Doody kids that turned to hippies to yuppies to the dreaded boomers.
Our family’s just generations of trailer trash, so even being the right age many (but not all) of the pop culture assumptions have been wrong for each of us.
I find generation markers convenient, but as an abstraction for broader things.

@woozle @Catvalente I absolutely loved that song. And by 1994 at the very latest found it uncomfortable & kinda sad.
But it remains catchy and sweet. Such a timestamp marker of a tune.

@Catvalente @wordshaper yep yep, strongly agree with these aspects.
My own anecdotal perspective is affected by each generation being born well inside the fenceposts that our family has versions of the cliche associations (mom got kicked out of HS for wearing pants, grandpa got drunkenly into Zen and climbed Mt Fuji, I wore Goodwill castoffs and got into DIY computing).
But yeah you’re right. A tiny sliver, also too young for this too old for that.

Okay, it seems I pushed too hard yesterday with the thrill of executive function. Brain has been stale pudding today.

Making sure I can post from the iPad. For added spice, I’m writing it with the Pencil. Shockingly, it has so far been able to process my writing.
